Groups and programmes:
The Groupwork Programme
This programme is offered to people who are prepared to commit to an
initial 4 week attendance, usually 5-6 days a week. Depending on other
commitments, the programme will be individually tailored to meet each
person's needs. The programme can only be accessed after an assessment. Open Group (Monday & Saturday)
Assessment Group (once a week)Ongoing group for all clients. Discussion can be free-ranging or specific, light or intense. Broadly, its content is around an alcohol-free or controlled lifestyle, but there's usually a lighthearted relaxed atmosphere.
This is for clients in the first 4-8 weeks of attendance. It focuses on
the day-to-day changes in life when users have stopped or reduced their
drinking and offers the opportunity to explore ways of making positive
changes and planning short term goals. Participants are expected to be
motivated to change old patterns of drinking behaviour. Abstinence Group
In the second month of attendance (or after a 4-week period of
abstinence), clients may use this weekly group provided they are
choosing to remain alcohol-free. Participants will be moving into a
period of greater confidence regarding abstinence or changed patterns.
However, a conscious focus on relapse prevention needs to be maintained
in a period where vigilance may be lowered through over-confidence. The
Group will start to focus more on an alcohol-free lifestyle and how all
aspects of our life may need to change with the absence of alcohol.
Resettlement Group For clients who are abstinent or are effectively controlling their drinking. It runs over 24 weeks (4 modules of 6 weeks) and covers personal development, skills enhancement, practical activities, advice and information and access to other relevant services. Longer-term Abstinence Group This group runs for clients who have been abstinent for over 6 months and are involved in outside activities such as volunteering, working, retraining etc.
New Starters Meeting (Monday) & Follow-up (Friday) An information-giving session involving new starters, established clients and staff. It offers the opportunity to ask questions, check out the content of the programme, and be given a list of "do's and don'ts". At the end of the first week, the people who have just started meet again to review their experience of the Day Programme, to ask any questions they may have, clarify their programme, discuss any difficulties etc. |
